Cherry Pie Criterium - San Jose - Results and Photos

The first “big” race of the season today, the Cherry Pie Criterium, had a great turnout for Team AC. We had two riders in the Junior 10-14 group (Spence and Skyler), and four in the 15-16 group (Alex, Bob, Isaiah and Spence). Spence raced twice – the 10-14, and 15-16 races, and Isaiah also raced Elite 4 right after the Junior 15-16 race.

This was a very well-attended event – testimony to the 37 years they said they’ve been holding it. I understand that there were also a number of other Team AC Elite athletes competing later, but we left around 11:30 AM so didn’t stay for the other big races.

Each group was very large compared to what we’ve been used to seeing at the other junior races, and the Junior 15-16 group also raced in the same pack as the 17-18 racers, so there looked to be 60-70 racers out there during the boys’ race today.

Good strong finishes by everyone, no crashes, and everyone seemed to feel good about their performances today. Spence and Skyler noticed how “small” their competitors seemed, now that many of the older boys have moved up to U16. They’re now two of the bigger stronger riders in the category (hmm, Above Category?).

Finishes were good, with one podium finish (complete with Cherry Pie!) for Spence.

Junior 10-14 (20 minutes)
Spence Peterson – 2nd Place
Skyler Taylor – 4th Place

Junior 15-16 (30 minutes)
Isaiah Rapko – 6th Place
Bob Siegel – 8th Place
Alex Howard – 11th Place
Spence Peterson – 12th Place

Pictures are up (thanks to Ken Howard, our photographer today!):
